Our NPAS accreditation provides a stamp of quality that provides assurance to students and their parents looking to study at UTS. Yesterday’s Student Accommodation Association (SAA) event, held in collaboration with Study NSW in Sydney, was a fantastic gathering of industry peers and a perfect way to wrap up the year!
A big thank you to Katie Hanna from Study NSW for sharing how they’re partnering with the sector on the provision of quality accommodation for international students in NSW. Katie’s insights into the role of PBSA and student accommodation in shaping the future of the government’s housing strategy were spot on!
Another highlight was Ron De Haan GAICD's practical session, taking attendees through the National Property Accreditation Scheme (NPAS) application process.
This was followed by a panel discussion about the challenges and opportunities in balancing affordability, quality, and sustainable growth in NSW’s student accommodation sector. Our speakers were then joined by Robert Chasse from Scape, who added valuable perspectives on building strong partnerships and driving growth in the student accommodation industry. Together, they provided a wealth of knowledge and actionable ideas for attendees to take back to their organisations.
Key Highlilghts:
A heartfelt thank you to all our speakers and attendees, as well as our amazing sponsors Study NSW, StarRez, Inc., CONSTANT and SiLANT for making this event such a success.

Huge congratulations to Varsity Apartments on achieving NPAS accreditation!
NPAS sets the standard for quality and safety in student accommodation, ensuring peace of mind for students and their families. It’s a testament to Varsity Apartments' commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and well-equipped environment for young adults transitioning to independent living.
Located just an eight-minute walk from the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), Varsity Apartments offers everything a student needs for a balanced and enriching experience. With 128 units across 2.5 hectares of landscaped grounds, residents enjoy the perfect blend of privacy and community with four-bedroom apartments, each room featuring a private ensuite and shared kitchen, living area, and large balcony. Plus, they’ve recently upgraded to unlimited high-speed WiFi, keeping students connected seamlessly!
Denise Lucas, Managing Partner at Varsity Apartments, shared her thoughts:
“Under the previous managers, Varsity Apartments was the first complex in Australia to gain NPAS accreditation. We recognise the importance of NPAS accreditation to parents, knowing that their adolescent, although away from home, is safe and has access to 24-hour support. Additionally, the University of the Sunshine Coast values NPAS as a sign of quality accommodation for both local and international students.”
With fantastic amenities—including two swimming pools, a multi-purpose tennis/pickleball/basketball court, beach volleyball, a gym, and a recreation building—Varsity Apartments truly goes above and beyond to provide a vibrant, secure, and comfortable living space. The dedicated after-hours security further ensures the peace and safety of all residents.
Well done to Varsity Apartments for this outstanding achievement, raising the bar in student accommodation!
